60th Wenas Campout Coming May 29th – June 1st, 2026– Join Us!

Interested in spending a weekend with enthusiastic birders? Love the outdoors? Interested in seeing new birds? Then the Wenas Campout is for you! Birds Connect Seattle has hosted this campout for over 60 years. Several of us from SSBA ventured over last year and had a great time. Held for all Washington Audubon chapters the weekend after Memorial Day it offers a few days of excellent birding and comradery in the warm woods along Wenas Creek in the Hazel Wolf Bird Sanctuary, southwest of Ellensburg and north of Naches.

“This casual and friendly event offers a variety of outdoor exploration, including birding field trips, wildflower walks, field sketching, children’s activities, live music and evening presentations with guest speakers. All are welcome to this free family friendly event. Come for a day or all weekend.”

Visit the Wenas Campout website for directions, trip descriptions and more information about the area. (www.wenasaudubon.org)

It’s free and no registration needed; just show up, set up camp, and participate in activities. It is rustic camping for tents and RVs but Porta Potties are provided.

This year a few of us from SSBA are helping lead field trips: Roger Bessey, Jen DeSelle, Carla Miller, and Suzanne Wilson. We would love to have you join us. If you want to talk to one of us about our experiences, some of us will be at the May program meeting. We’d love your help co-leading some activities with us.
