Cascades Butterfly Resources

Butterfly Data Entry
https://pollardbase.org/ – you will need to create a login and I will have to give you permission. There are directions on data entry. If you enter your butterfly data, then still mail or email the data sheet to me and I will check your entries against your data sheet and approve it. Once you enter your data, you cannot go back to make any corrections (like if you figure out a species or an unknown, you will need to tell me and I can make the adjustment).

Websites and Apps
Cascades Butterfly Project Private Facebook Group
https://www.facebook.com/groups/886586235024541/ – site for communicating between program members

Facebook Public Group: Butterflies and Moths of the Pacific Northwest – really helpful for seeing photos of what people are finding now and also a place you can ask questions on i.d.

North Coast and Cascades Research Learning Center, https://www.nps.gov/rlc/northcoastcascades/index.htm This website is not being actively updated, but it does have a program overview under pollinators and links to our Protocol and Standard Operating Procedures. There is also a page on Bees in North Cascades and Mount Rainier with a link to a report by Dr. Jessica Rykken.
Additionally, if you go to the “About Us” tab you can find a link to the NPS Image Gallery where there are photos of many of our butterflies and bees collected by Dr Rykken. https://npgallery.nps.gov/NCCRLC

Butterflies and Moths of North America (or BAMONA) https://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/ – great photos and maps of butterfly and moth observations across the US. This is also where you can upload photos of butterflies. This is similar to iNaturalist in some ways, but you really need a photo or two and a butterfly expert identifies (David Droppers for our area) your observation rather than crowd sourcing.

Washington Butterfly Association https://wabutterflyassoc.org/ – this site has some helpful study aids

Moths of the Pacific Northwest http://pnwmoths.biol.wwu.edu/ – great site for learning local moths

PollardBase https://pollardbase.org/ – this is the portal for entering butterfly data from our surveys. You will need a logon and I will try to approve it quickly after you apply.

Butterflies of North America http://butterfliesofamerica.com/US-Can-Cat-1-30-2011.htm – site f or overview of current butterfly names

Washington Wildflowers App , $9.99 https://apps.apple.com/us/app/washington- wildflowers/id615736195

University of Washington Burke Museum Herbarium Image Collection – http://biology.burke.washington.edu/herbarium/imagecollection.php – great site for plant images and distributions
