We’ve all seen the posters tacked up to utility poles with photos of adorable, but missing, cats. When I see these around town, I automatically think “coyotes”. Cars are also the cause of pet deaths but coyotes don’t leave a corpse for a frantic pet owner to find. Thus, the posters go up.
Coyotes get along just fine both within and outside of urban settings, with cats being a staple food item. Losing a cat to coyotes is very much avoidable. Keep your cat indoors. When outdoors, keep it contained in a catio or on a leash. This protects the cat as well as the backyard birds we all love.
