LOCATION: Mary E. Theler Wetlands Preserve Trail, Highway 3 Belfair, Wa
WHEN: October 11, 9 am- 1 pm
TRIP LEADER: Abby Salmon
CONTACT: Please contact abby.salmon20@gmail.com with any questions.
DESCRIPTION: The walk will cover about 2.5 miles. Theler Wetlands offers a mostly level gravel trail through a mix of cultivated plantings, alder, marine shoreline, pasture, wetland and streamside habitats. A short boardwalk leads to a viewing platform where birders can scan open water and tidelands for sea birds and shorebirds. The variety of habitat types makes this a great place to see a high diversity of bird species, and in October we are likely to see waterfowl, shorebirds, gulls, grebes, songbirds, raptors, and more.
This will be a casual walk that is suitable for all skill levels. Beginner level and advanced birders welcome.
WHAT TO BRING: Dress for the weather. Bring binoculars and a spotting scope if you have them. Bring snacks and water if you would like.
MEETING LOCATION: Meet a few minutes before 9:00 a.m. south of the Mary Theler Early Learning Center, 22871 WA-3 (Highway 3), Belfair, WA 98528. No restroom facilities at trailhead. Several coffee shops, restaurants, and grocery stores are close to the site on Highway 3.
