We received notification on August 21st that the first (shown above) of two Motus towers that SSBA helped to fund is now installed and receiving data. It is located on the roof of Hotel Santa Maria in San Quintin on the Baja California peninsula. A Motus tower has a set of antennas that can pick up signals emitted from uniquely coded small radio transmitters that have been attached to birds, bats and bugs. SSBA partnered with Pronatura Noroeste and Terra Peninsular for this project. The station is active and you can view its data here:
Search for: San Quintín – Hotel Misión Santa Maria (#16407). It hasn’t picked up a signal yet but birds are heading south now. Fingers crossed the station will receive a “ping” soon.
This is the first of two stations that SSBA has helped finance. Be looking for another announcement when the 2nd tower is installed.
