New, Monthly, Family-Friendly Bird Walks

Kim Adelson– Beginning in November and continuing through March, SSBA will be hosting family-friendly birds walks on the third Sunday of the month (November 15, December 20, January 17, February 21, and March 21) at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. We will meet at the deck adjoining the Visitor’s Center at 10 AM. Preregistration is required because spaces are limited; starting November 1st you can preregister on the SSBA web page.

These walks are designed for parents/grandparents and their children. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The walks will last until everyone has run out of stamina, but families can peel off at any time.

The walks are intended to provide an easy, fun birdwatching experience for children. No experience necessary! Our focus will be on the waterfowl that flock to (pun intended) Nisqually during the winter months. Ducks and geese are a great entry to birdwatching: they are large, they stand still and are out in the open. The leaders will have a spotting scope for close-up views, and we will have binoculars to share if you do not have your own.  Children will receive a waterfowl coloring book to take home as a souvenir.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Kim Adelson at education@southsoundbirds.org.
