Constructing a golf course and all its amenities, including lodging, a clubhouse, retail store, restaurants, and concessions throughout Westport Light State Park, has been proposed and, if constructed, will destroy precious wetlands and its habitats (previously entrusted to a land covenant). This is a sanctuary for vibrant wildlife and a haven for surfers and beach goers from all over.
The Park is home to the second largest area of rare interdunal wetlands in Washington and has been declared an Aquatic Resource of National Importance by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The proposed golf course threatens to damage the fragile ecosystem by clearing and filling hundreds of acres of wetlands and forest plus creating the need for pesticides and fertilizers for its regular maintenance. Gray’s Harbor Audubon Society is involved in litigation to stop this development and this petition, run by a private citizen, is a way for you to make an impact.
