SSBA THANKS SAM MERRILL

For the past 12 years, Sam Merrill has been at the helm of the South Sound Bird Alliance Conservation Committee, a group that works tirelessly to protect state and local wildlife habitat. Sam has spearheaded many campaigns over this time: protecting West Rocky Prairie and Beaver Creek habitat including administering a large mitigation settlement, opposing the Quality Rock gravel mine expansion and asphalt plant plan, and working on Skookumchuck Wind Farm mitigation practices to protect Marbled Murrelets. This is only a fraction of what Sam has been involved in over the years.

At the speaker program on December 11, SSBA recognized and honored Sam during social time. Over forty folks enjoyed special desserts and heard past presidents, Elizabeth Rodrick and Deb Nickerson, extol Sam and all his accomplishments. Sam will be staying on the Conservation Committee which will now be co-chaired by Betsy Norton and Charlotte Persons. You can be proud of this committed group of knowledgeable and passionate conservationists. The next time you see Sam, please offer him your thanks to him personally.
