Volunteer Opportunities for All

Deb Nickerson

There are many ways to support the work of our chapter. I want to share one of my goals as Volunteer Coordinator of the chapter.  Several committees can use additional members; we are also undertaking two new campaigns which need leaders and labor. Below I will list all of our current opportunities. If you are interested in joining one of these groups, please let me or the current chair know and we will reach out to you. Thank you. Many of us together can accomplish a great deal.

  • Field Trip Committee – new leaders and co-leaders are always welcome and enhance our trip offerings.  We also are looking for some who have gone on a field trip to write a summary of what was seen and heard and details that made the trip interesting. Chair: Miles McEvoy  smileybirdmiles@gmail.com
  • Outreach Committee – several times a year we have a table at local events; we share knowledge about birds and birding and the work of our chapter. We need some more volunteers to help staff a table at an event for a couple-hour shift. Stevie is our chair and compiles a list of all who she can contact when events arise. This is infrequent and shifts run for about an hour or two. Contact Stevie Morris at stephaniemrrs2@gmail.com  and ask her about upcoming possibilities.
  • Cats Indoors Campaign – This is a new undertaking and will be one that will take about one to two years of work.  “Catios” are becoming popular; keeping our cats inside is standard to some owners.  Help to publicize the ways we can prevent bird deaths and cat mortality too (think disease and coyotes) if more of us kept our cats inside.  Contact Kathleen Snyder at ksnyder75@gmail.com  or Deb Nickerson at debranick@gmail.com to get involved with this evolving group.
  • Membership Drive – Use your skills to expand our publicity in order to increase our membership among all demographic groups. There is a wide variety of tasks to take on being a member of this group. Again, this work will take place for a limited time period of about 1-3 years.  Contact Deb Nickerson who will gather names for an eventual meeting. debranick@gmail.com

There are many other committees and endeavors within this chapter. Reach out to me if you want to discuss specifics of getting involved. Short-term projects or long-reaching programs all need our skills and talents.  I hope to talk to you, hold a “conversation” via email, or see you at a program meeting soon.
