WESTERN WASHINGTON’S SPRING SHOREBIRDS

2 PART CLASS

Thursday April 23rd @ 6:30pm – 8:30pm
and
Thursday April 30th @ 6:30pm – 8:30pm

Every April and May, thousands upon thousands of shorebirds arrive along the Washington Coast during their spring migration. This class will teach you to identify those shorebirds (as well as the resident shorebirds who will be on the beaches at the same time). It is timed to just precede the annual Grays Harbor Shorebird Festival, which begins May 1st. Specific information as to where the different birds can be found throughout our region will be provided: many of the species have very limited stopover points, and most prefer a certain type of coastline, i.e., rocky, sandy, or muddy. This course should give you the knowledge to move beyond saying, “Well, I think it’s a sandpiper of some sort”!

Dates: The class will have two sessions: Part One of the class will be on April 23rd, and Part Two of the class will be on April 30th, each from 6:30-8:30 PM. (Though we may not go quite that long both days.) In addition, there will be numerous field trip opportunities associated with the Shorebird Festival to put your knowledge to good use!

Cost: Members $40/ Non-Members $50 or ‘Pay-what-you-can’ option
Pay online or send check payable to South Sound Bird Alliance (SSBA) at: SSBA, P.O. Box 2524, Olympia, WA 98507) when registering.
