Each October thousands of people around the world count birds and post their checklists on eBird as part of a birding Big Day. October 11 is this year’s October Big Day. Big Day is sponsored by Cornell Lab and eBird, a platform for sharing bird observations worldwide. Last October, 47,300 eBirders submitted 106,680 checklists reporting observations of 7,990 different species. Anyone can participate in October Big Day. There is no fee.
To get started, check out eBird’s October Big Day page, http://ebird.org/news/october-big-day-2025 . There you’ll find out more about October Big Day, including how to get an eBird account so that you can join other birders around the world in the fun of sharing your bird observations.
Wherever you are on October 11, take a few minutes to observe birds and share your observations via eBird. Then, during the day, you can watch bird reports roll in from over 200 countries on the October Big Day page. By taking part in October Big Day, you are also celebrating Global Bird Weekend (October 10, 11, & 12) and World Migratory Bird Day. The theme of this year’s World Migratory Bird Day is creating bird-friendly cities and communities.
