Oh my goodness. The Western Bluebirds are back in force at Glacial Heritage Preserve. We have at least 15 pairs checking out the 43 nest boxes that South Sound Bird Alliance monitors there. This is more than we have had in the past two years; last year, we had 16 successful bluebird nests over both nesting periods. Hopefully we will surpass that this year.
Our monitors engage in passive monitoring. They sit and watch the nest box from a safe distance while recording what they see. Glacial Heritage is one of seven prairies where SSBA is providing nest boxes. It is also our premier spot.
Please take the opportunity to visit Glacial Heritage on Prairie Appreciation Day Saturday, May 10th. More information is available in this issue.
